The Recreation, Spiritual, and Volunteer Services Department provide therapeutic recreation activities and programs which stimulate the mind, body, and spirit. The recreation department strives to provide meaningful and therapeutic group programs and encourages family participation in all programming.
Spiritual Care at the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home serves the spiritual & religious needs of the Residents, their families, and staff, with respect for their faith traditions and the dignity of their persons.
Our Volunteers play a vital role in enhancing the lives of everyone in our Home. Volunteers compliment the personal interactions with the Residents – bringing life and enthusiasm and maintaining connection to the community.
The Resident Council provide opportunity for a direct voice. The Council meets monthly to share information and to discuss any concerns or ideas that Residents wish to raise. The Council addresses Resident concerns, helps to plan new programs and projects, and presents recommendations.
Staffed by licensed Hair Dressers, our Salon operates two to three days a week. Hair dressing services are available for both men and women. The costs of services are the responsibility of the resident/family.
Supported by a major initiative of our Foundation and the 2015 Lights of Love Campaign, the dental office will offer on-site dental checkups. Expected to be functional during the winter of 2016, please stay tuned for updates.
Basic foot care is offered to all of our residents but specialized, advanced procedures are available for a fee by an advanced foot care technician. Payment for the advanced service is the responsibility of the resident/family.
As end of life approaches, palliative care focuses on providing residents and their families with relief from symptoms, pain, physical stress, and mental stress.
Our Food Services staff are committed to providing high quality food and nutrition services. We have a dietitian on staff that is responsible for the nutritional needs of all our residents.
Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses and Continuing Care Assistants are on duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Our Education Coordinator is responsible for staff training and development. Various programs of interest are also available to our residents/families. If you are interested in seeing specific education provided in the Home, please contact our Education Coordinator.
Our team of housekeeping, laundry and maintenance staff provide much more than washing, cleaning and fixing services. They are often found organizing the resident card games, puzzles or afternoon baking.
Through relationship building and the provision of best practice rehabilitation, our rehabilitation department, fondly known as the Walking Stick helps to keep our residents mobile and engaged in their communities.

With the support of staff and volunteers, our residents operate a small canteen. Located on the corridor between Tanglewood and ‘The Cottages’, hours vary, depending on resident availability.
