In response to the presence of COVID-19 in our local community, the RK is taking these precautions to protect our residents:

The Board of Directors of the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home is pleased to announce the appointment of Terry MacIntyre as Permanent Chief Executive Officer (CEO) effective November 15, 2021.

The RK is currently looking to fill positions in nursing, especially CCAs, as well as housekeeping, dietary and custodial care, as the nation-wide staffing shortage for front-line healthcare workers is also impacting Nova Scotia.

New policy now requires mandatory vaccination for all staff and visitors to protect our most vulnerable populations form the Delta Variant of COVID-19.

There were further easing of restrictions in LTC at the June 30, 2021 announcement. 

Students in Mrs. Synishin’s Grade 12 health and human services class were tasked with the assignment of writing letters to residents of the R.K. MacDonald Nursing Home.

New easing of restrictions means increased access to visitors and the community, but the Public Health measures have not eased.

The RK MacDonald Nursing Home would like to remind visitors, staff, and residents to be mindful of those with shellfish allergies this spring and summer. Please view the updated SOP on mandatory procedures that must be followed when lobster is brought into the RK.

The RK is committed to providing a healthy, safe, and productive workplace. We strive to eliminate the use of personal and environmental products with scents and fragrances to prevent adverse reactions among residents, staff, and visitors. Where possible, please choose to use unscented products.

This is local artist Susan Walsh, trained in Time Slips Creative Storytelling, who meets weekly with Residents in the Rhubarb Patch to create stories together.

The RK MacDonald Nursing Home welcomes pet visits for your loved ones. Prior to and during your visit, there are just a few things to keep in mind to get the most out of your visit.

The RK MacDonald is looking into alternative methods to keep residents with high risk of elopement safe that will increase visitors’ access to the main entrance.

In July 2025, the Sisters of St. Martha celebrated not only the Saints, Martha, Mary, and Lazarus – they also celebrated their 125th year of congregation.
